JOB DESCRIPTION: ANIMAL CARE TECHNICIAN

This position requires the person to be punctual, dedicated and customer service oriented. To work collaboratively with others to achieve a clean and sanitary environment for the animals. Treat animals humanely with love and concern, both on and off the job. Provide accurate information and friendly service to the public. Participate in team meetings with other team members to share ideas and suggestions designed to improve the organization. Starting rate $17/hr

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Feed, water, and care for shelter animals.
  • Clean and disinfect inside and outside dog kennels, cattery and all other areas of the shelter.
  • Regularly observe animals for signs of sickness.
  • Perform vaccinations on animals.
  • Administer medication to animals when needed.
  • May be asked to assist in a euthanasia (this will not be required of you).
  • Respectfully dispose of animal remains in accordance with the Society’s policies.
  • Bath grooming and walking animals as directed by a supervisor.
  • Assist the public with the adoption of animals.
  • Assist volunteers when needed.
  • Perform all janitorial duties assigned.
  • Must be pleasant, courteous, and professional with the public at all times, no matter how difficult the situation.

Job Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to lift 50lbs.
  • Able to handle and restrain animals in a humane manner.
  • Ability to deal with the public tactfully and effectively. Customer service in a must!
  • Learn and understand principles of animal welfare and policies of the humane society.
  • Gain knowledge of the various breeds of animals, vaccinations and euthanasia policies.
  • Multi-task comfortably.

JOB DESCRIPTION: CLIENT SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE 

Job Description

Department: Shelter

Reports to: Shelter Supervisor 

Position Type: Full Time/Part Time

Pay Range: $17-$20/hour (CONPA)

Position Summary: To act as the first point of contact for individuals visiting/contacting La Plata County Humane Society (hereby referred to as LPCHS) and to uphold the organization’s standard as the regional hub for the Four Corners area providing quality animal welfare services. This position requires a punctual, dedicated, and customer service oriented individual who excels in problem solving and multitasking in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service: Greeting and directing visitors. Handle all incoming calls and direct them to the appropriate department/individual as well as providing information to the general public. Inform members of the community about resources available within our facility when asked.
  • Adoption Support: Provide relevant adoption information to the public and finalize all adoptions, ensuring that the proper paperwork is completed and the correct information is given to adopters. Making sure all vaccines and medical issues are addressed prior to adopting animals to the public. 
  • Documentation: Helping to update Petpoint and ensure that all animal information is up to date. Communicating with Animal Protection regarding impounds and RTO’s
  • Administrative: Issuing pet licenses and rabies tags. Handle all appointment scheduling and questions. Manage emails, voicemails, and service inquiries. Maintain work area. 
  • Cashiering: Run detailed sales reports, reconcile cash drawer, and prepare deposits.
  • Back up: Complete all extra duties as assigned by the end of work day.  

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of (1) one year of customer service or reception experience.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Google Docs and Microsoft Office.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to show compassion and empathy. 
  • Must be able to perform in a fast paced and high call volume environment.  
  • Holidays and weekends may be required.
  • Experience in animal welfare is preferred but not required.
