The La Plata County Humane Society is looking for
kids to join their K-9 Kamp!
Hey Kids! If You Are 9—13 Years Old Then This Kamp is for You!
Come join us for 4 days of fun and educational activities working with LPCHS shelter dogs!
Each kamp (spring, summer, and fall) offers 4 sessions that include dog training, grooming basics, socializing animals, learning about spay-neutering, animal cruelty problems, and the responsibilities of our Animal Protection officers.
Description of Each Session:
SESSION ONE: Basic dog training—each kamper will have a shelter dog to practice basic dog training while under the direct supervision of staff and
professional dog trainers.
SESSION TWO: Introduction to dog grooming—kampers will bathe dogs and practice grooming skills with professional staff and volunteers. This session also
includes a river trail dog walk.
SESSION THREE: This group of Kampers will be split into two groups—activities include a shelter tour, puppy-kitty playtime, learning about spay and neuters by attending a spay-neuter clinic and hanging out with the veterinarians
and tech staff. Also included is learning about the responsibilities of the
La Plata County Animal Protection Officers.
SESSION FOUR: All twelve kampers will be together for a recap of the three days—events of the day include a performance assessment about something learned during the kamp; designing bandanas for participating dogs; creating a kennel card for participating dogs (that will hang on their kennels); and creating a drawing about something learned that will be part of a slide show posted on the LPCHS website. Cake and ice cream will be served as certificates of completion are handed out.
